Silly Hat
Quarters on crack...
Also called “Buckets of Fun”, Silly Hat is a creation of the infamous Craig VanLeeuan, and so is originally unique to Sigma Tau Gamma and it’s affiliates.
The game is prepared with all participants sitting around a table, each with a beer, a sixteen ounce cup, and a glass plate. In the center of the table is a one gallon bucket, filled half way with water, in the center of which is sunk a glass shot glass.
A number of quarters, at least as many as there are players, are on the table. Players take turns bouncing a quarter off of the glass plate attempting to get it into the bucket. Play progresses to the left--clockwise. The person to make the last available quarter must fish all the quarters out of the bucket.
Each player shoots until they miss, with the following awards: After making their first shot in the bucket, a player may give one shot of beer, approximately two ounces, to any player at the table. After the second shot, again they may give out one shot. After their third shot, however, they give out a half of a beer. The fourth shot is back to a shot of beer. The fifth shot is unique; it allows the player to make a rule to be in effect for the rest of the game. All successive shots after five are a half a beer each.
While it is the players’ choice, the first rule made is traditionally that no one on the table may call anyone else by their real name (or recognized nicknames), often resulting in strange nicknames. This is where the name Silly Hat came from.
When a person is given beer to drink, they must first pour it into their cup. They are not required to drink immediately, however, if their cup overflows at any time, they must immediately finish its contents, and restart with another half beer. They also forfeit their next turn to shoot.
If a person shoots a quarter into the bucket, and it goes into the shot glass, the resulting award is one level higher, that is if they would have given out a shot, they give a half beer. If they would have given a half beer, they give a full beer. The shot glass has no effect on the fifth consecutive shot.
A player may choose to target another players cup. If they do so, and hit the players cup, that person must immediately finish the cups contents, and is skipped on their next turn. This ends the shooting players turn outright, even if the cup is made.
-Crazy.
